DELE A2 Practice
The DELE A2 exam tests survival Spanish: can you understand everyday texts — signs, messages, ads, short articles — under time pressure? That skill is trainable, and it compounds. Here's what the reading section actually asks, and a daily practice system that builds toward it. (We're an independent practice resource, not official Instituto Cervantes material.)
What the A2 reading section looks like
The comprensión lectora section gives you several short texts (notices, emails, advertisements, articles) with multiple-choice questions. The skills it rewards:
- Fast gist reading — answering "what is this text for?" without understanding every word.
- Detail spotting — finding times, prices, names, and conditions in functional texts.
- Inference — working out what the writer implies, not just what they state.
- Vocabulary range — everyday topics: shopping, transport, work, health, housing, leisure.
Notice what's not on that list: literature, speed-reading native journalism, or obscure grammar. A2 reading is about everyday functional texts — exactly what graded news-style articles train.
A 4-week daily practice plan
- Weeks 1–2: Volume at level. One A2 article per day, audio on. Goal: finish comfortably in under 10 minutes and state the gist without translating.
- Week 3: Timed reading. Same articles, but set a timer — 4 minutes for a 250-word text. Then re-read without the timer to catch details you missed. This builds exam pace.
- Week 4: Question mode. After each timed read, write down 3 comprehension questions and answer them from memory. This mirrors the exam's gist-plus-detail structure. Add two full official-style sample papers from the Instituto Cervantes Preparación al DELE series.

Frequently asked questions
How do I practice for the DELE A2 reading section?+
Read one leveled A2 text daily to build volume, then in the final two weeks switch to timed reading (4 minutes per ~250 words) and answer gist-plus-detail questions from memory. Finish with one or two official Instituto Cervantes sample papers for format familiarity.
What level of texts are on the DELE A2 exam?+
Short functional and everyday texts — notices, emails, ads, and simple articles on topics like shopping, transport, work, and leisure. They use common tenses and everyday vocabulary, which is what A2-graded reading material trains.
Is this official DELE A2 material?+
No. SpanishReadingDaily is an independent daily-reading resource; our A2 texts are calibrated to exam level and format but are not official Instituto Cervantes content. For authentic exam papers, use the official Preparación al DELE A2 book or the Cervantes sample exams.
How long does it take to get from A2 reading level to passing DELE A2?+
If you're already a solid A2, 4–6 weeks of daily timed reading plus one official sample paper a week is typically enough. If you're closer to A1, allow 3–4 months of daily graded reading first — the exam rewards reading stamina as much as vocabulary.
